What is the shelf life of the MonaVie beverages?
If unopened, the MonaVie products have a shelf life of one year, from the date of production. Once opened, MonaVie should be refrigerated and consumed within 7 days. For optimum freshness, we recommend refrigerating the products before and after opening.

Are MonaVie products safe?
Yes, MonaVie products are safe and contain only well-tolerated foods. MonaVie contains fruit juices and purees naturally found in the food supply that have been consumed by various cultures for hundreds of years. However, if you have any health concerns, you should carefully read the label for its ingredient content and consult a physician before starting any new product or program.

What is açai?
Açai is a small, round, dark-purple berry. Its appearance is similar to that of a grape, but it has a smaller amount of pulp and a single large seed.

Why does the açai berry seem to get more attention than the other fruits in MonaVie?
While all the fruits contained in MonaVie help promote a balanced lifestyle, the açai berry has become the “headliner” fruit. Brazilian people living along the Amazon can survive on it as their sole source of food. Through its patented processing, MonaVie is able to capture from the açai berry in its purest form.

Where does açai grow?
The açai berry grows in clusters on the açai palm, a genus of 25–30 species of palms native to tropical Central and South America. These tall, slender palms can grow 15–30 meters tall, with leaves up to 3 meters long. The prime commercial source of açai comes from the area where several rivers converge within the Amazon estuary, emptying along the northeastern corner of Brazil into the Atlantic Ocean between the states of Para and Amapá. The people of Brazil refer to açai as the “Milk of the Amazon.”

Does harvesting the açai berry destroy the Amazon Rainforest?
No. A food staple for the local population, acai is a vital part of the economy. Through a partnership with MonaVie, local people practice an ecological way of harvesting that provides long-term economic benefits. Since acai trees produce fruit year round, harvesters benefit from a continual income that helps sustain life in the Amazon and preserve the rainforest.

How much açai is contained in MonaVie products?
The exact amount of açai, or of the other fruits, contained in our blend is not disclosed. This is considered one of the company’s greatest intellectual assets. However, the ingredients appear on the label in order, by amount, from most to least. This means that because açai is the first fruit listed on the label, it is the most abundant fruit in the blend.

Does MonaVie use flash pasteurization?
Yes. With flash pasteurization, the product is heated for approximately 15–30 seconds and then immediately cooled. By only briefly subjecting the product to high temperatures, most—if not all—taste and colour changes are avoided. Flash pasteurization is preferred to other methods because it kills microbes without destroying phytonutrients.

What are the green clumps in the MonaVie beverages?
The green film and clumps seen in the MonaVie beverages are substances known as mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids, which come from the acai berry. Depending on the area of the Amazon and the time of year the açai berry is harvested, the fat content may vary slightly from bottle to bottle. These fats tend to coagulate or clump together when flash pasteurized. These fats are not harmful. Please shake the bottle well before pouring.

Why does my product sometimes taste or look different?
As with any product that uses natural ingredients, there can be variation from batch to batch. For example, depending on the area of the Amazon and the time of year the acai berry is harvested, fat content may vary slightly from bottle to bottle. As with any raw fruit, it does not have the exact same composition every time it grows. Every effort is made during the manufacturing process to ensure that MonaVie products are consistently safe.

Can you compare MonaVie and “X” product?
We understand the desire to do direct product comparisons with MonaVie; however, due to current company policy, we cannot provide side-by-side product comparisons. Direct product comparisons come with significant legal liability. It is simply best to not do them. We are, however, happy to provide you with some information describing MonaVie’s beverage mix and the reasons that make the MonaVie product what it is. The açai berry naturally contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Many companies choose to clarify or remove these fats from their açai products; however, MonaVie is committed to only providing açai that has not been clarified. The number one fruit ingredient in the MonaVie beverage blend is açai. By looking at the ingredient list you can see what ingredient is the most abundant. MonaVie uses freeze-dried and frozen puree of acai. By freeze-drying the açai, up to 100% of the composition is maintained.

Is there any vitamin K in MonaVie?
For customers concerned about vitamin K levels because of blood thinning medication, please consult a physician before taking any MonaVie products. MonaVie contains 8 mcg of vitamin K per 30 ml.

Does MonaVie interact with any prescription medicines?
MonaVie does not provide medical advice. If you are taking a prescription medication and are under the supervision of a physician, please consult with your physician or pharmacist before taking MonaVie. MonaVie and MonaVie Pulse are very safe to consume. Some prescription medicines, however, are known to interact with foods. Some food/nutrient interactions you should be aware of when taking MonaVie include vitamin K with blood thinners or anti-coagulants (e.g., Coumadin®), and potassium with blood pressure (e.g., metoprolol and propranolol) and ACE inhibitor medications (e.g., captopril).

Can people with diabetes consume MonaVie products?
We advise those with any medical condition to consult with their physician before consuming MonaVie products. Please understand that because each diabetic is different, as some are insulin dependent and others are not, MonaVie will affect each individual differently. MonaVie contains 3 grams of natural sugar (carbohydrate) per 30 ml. MonaVie Pulse contains 7 grams of sugar per 60 ml. MonaVie does not add any additional sugars to these products.

Why do MonaVie products contain preservatives?
Preservatives help maintain a product’s freshness. Sodium benzoate, the sodium salt of benzoic acid, can prevent the growth of almost all microorganisms (e.g., yeast, bacteria, and fungi). Benzoic acid is found naturally in tea, anise, most berries, cultured dairy products and cheese, cherry bark, and cassia bark.
